The Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) is a glacier located on the slopes of the Mont Blanc, in the French Alps, close to the village of Chamonix. Inaugurated in 1908, the Montenvers rack railway starts from Chamonix and, in 20 minutes and in total safety, reaches the bottom of the Mer de Glace (1,913 m).
