History of the Hotel Colón
Barcelona is the well-known capital of Catalonia in Spain. Hotel Colón was founded in 1951 by the Italian engineer Antonio Lamaro. At that time there was not so many hotels in Barcelona and Lamaro decided to build his own hotel after he was annoyed not to find a room in his usual Barcelona hotel.
Lamaro was able to secure an incredible location in the center of Barcelona, just in front of the gothic cathedral, Barcelona’s most famous touristic site. A large number of rooms have a direct view on the cathedral. Famous people have been housed by Hotel Colón such as Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Jean-Paul Sartre, Sofía Loren, Jane Fonda or Francis Ford Coppola. But the most famous guest ever was Joan Miró: the famous surrealist artist made the hotel his home during the years 1960s.
